Health insurance for over-65s: cover made for you
Health plans built around what you actually need. No waiting lists, care at home and direct access to the best specialists.
Why good health cover matters after 65
From 65 onwards, you see doctors more often, diagnostic tests become more routine, and the reassurance of quick access to specialists becomes genuinely valuable.
The public system offers solid cover, but waiting lists for specialists and diagnostic tests can stretch to weeks or months. Private cover gives you immediate access when you need it most.

What to know before you commit
Maximum age to take out cover
Some plans set an age limit for new policyholders (generally between 65 and 75). If you already hold a policy, renewal is usually guaranteed for life.
Health questionnaire
You'll probably be asked to complete a health questionnaire. Be completely honest: declaring a pre-existing condition won't necessarily exclude you, but hiding one can invalidate the policy.
Higher premiums
Premiums for over-65s are significantly higher than for younger people. Even so, it's worth comparing, because differences between plans can run to hundreds of euros a year.
The one piece of advice that matters most
If you're between 55 and 65 and don't yet have private cover, take it out now. Premiums will be lower and you secure access before you hit the age limit some plans apply.
